Hello All, I recently purchased Battlefield 2 Complete Edition, with the intent of starting up a LAN server and playing 64 bot maps by myself. Unfortunately, you need more than one person to access the wealth of multiplayer maps that exist (like Wake Island). Although singleplayer is great, there really aren't as many maps as the multiplayer, and so, I was wondering how to play multiplayer without the having the extremely annoying 'Game will start when 1 more player joins' message that prevents me from having any fun at all. I've modded the game's script quite well up to this point, and so I was wondering if there is a line of code somewhere in the files of the game that could be erased and in effect give me the multi (single) player experience I desire. If there is any such line of code, or a mod, or anything, really, that could help me surmount the unfortunate shut down of the servers by evil EA, then please share it here. It would be oh so awesome to be able to play a good game of 64 bot Wake Island Battlefield on a local server without having to find someone else to play it with.

In the world of multiplayer shooters, the Battlefield series has managed to hold its own against the likes of UT 2004 and Joint Operations. Unlike JO, it offers vehicles that allow the driver to control a weapon, and snipers don't have as easy of a time. Unlike UT 2004, the maps are much bigger - huge, in fact, although that's more a matter of taste than quality.

Also unlike UT, the damage model is much more realistic. However, it hasn't been all wine and roses for, which launched with a handful of quirks and missing-in-action features us shooter fans have gotten used to.

The latest patch serves to address those issues, and EA granted us some advanced access to the new content, much to our joy. And now you can.

Weighing in at about 175MB, the patch includes a whole ream of changes in addition to the major points we're covering today. Those of you who played BF1942 (or the BF1942 demo) will be familiar with the new Wake Island map, but for those of you who aren't (or don't remember), it starts with the USMC launching from an aircraft carrier and assaulting a small, crescent-shaped island to the southeast. The Japanese defend the island with the usual assortment of vehicles and emplaced weapons, and there's also an airstrip at the farthest point from the aircraft carrier. It's probably the most tropical map in the BF2 arsenal, with palm trees, sandy beaches, and bloody mayhem from above. Wake Island and more. Speaking of which, some tweaks have been made to air defense, after many players noted how difficult it was to eliminate a chopper or jet.

The emplaced rockets do more damage, for one, and they track with increased precision. It still takes two or more tank shells to destroy a chopper, which feels kind of silly because the shell should incapacitate even the beefiest attack heli, but what can you do. Maybe they'll tweak that in the next patch. On the other hand, DICE has finally added names to the capture points, making strategy much more fluid for everyone. Instead of saying 'the northeast base' or 'the west central base,' you can name it and use acronyms instead of wasting precious moments giving rough coordinates. Drivers can also see the names of passengers, so they now know who's actually riding with them. Before, all you knew was that it was a teammate (blue) or a squad mate (green).

Another nice feature is that teamkills resulting from an artillery strike don't count against the commander. Despite all the notifications people get, they'll still walk right into them, and I found myself doing the same thing a few times.

When you're in the middle of a firefight, I guess nothing short of a neon sign will get your attention, because there's already a blinking icon on the compass, and audio and text notifications telling you to get the heck out of Dodge. While this can invite evil commanders to strike their own base, I noticed that the kick vote requirements have been drastically reduced (and the map change vote, for that matter). It no longer requires everyone on the team plus people on the other team to get rid of a bad commander. After all, isn't a bad commander on their team a good thing for you?

As the saying goes, all's fair in love and war. Unfortunately, it still takes a considerable amount of time to start the game, log in, load a map and 'verify client data' before you can actually play, and selecting a spawn point has for some reason been reduced to a few pixels per base on a few maps. I thought it was merely some odd server delay until I asked around, but selecting a place to pop in really is a matter of very fine mouse pointer adjustment. This isn't really a big deal, because it's not like you'll be doing anything else while waiting to spawn, but it is a little unusual, and it needs some explaining to avoid unnecessary aggravation. Still, I hope DICE and EA figure out some faster way to load a map, because the gameplay flow takes a serious hit in between matches.

It's almost as if textures and geometry are being generated dynamically, instead of loaded into memory from the game directory. I encountered a few situations where it took so long to load that the server had moved on to another map - requiring starting from square one after several minutes of waiting. So while some annoyances still remain, the patch address a few key issues and adds Wake island.

Along with that, you can save favorite servers to a list and compare your BFHQ stats to anyone else who has an account. Tonagura sub indo 3gp s. A side-by-side comparison would been my personal choice, but being able to flip back and forth between your stats and somebody else's isn't so bad. It's nice, at least, to have an in-game breakdown of someone else's skills (or lack thereof).
